How Do I Get My Real Estate License?

We provide the best educational

resources and you provide the
dedication and commitment.

Becoming a Realtor takes time and dedication. Through our affiliation with  www.prosource.com, one of the best real estate educational services companies in Minnesota, we are able to offer you the course work you need to get licensed.

Minnesota Licensing Requirements

To become a Realtor, the state of Minnesota requires that you attend 90 hours of licensing education, pass the state-sponsored Licensing Exam and apply for a license with the Minnesota Department of Commerce through a Minnesota real estate broker.

Three 30-Hour Courses

The required education is comprised of Course I, Course II and Course III. Course I covers the principles of real estate and must be completed prior to taking the License Exam. You can also attend the 15-hour License Exam Preparation Course. Although not required, it nearly doubles your chances of passing the exam the first time.  Once you have taken the exam, Courses II and III must be completed. These courses cover current information about Minnesota real estate practices.

Course I

If you've been away from the books for a while, don't worry. More than 90% of students, who attend Course I and take the License Exam Preparation course offered through with www.prosource.com, pass on their first try.

License Exam Preparation Course

This course should be attended as soon as possible after completing Course I.  In fact, Edina Realty is so committed to making your career successful, your Edina Realty manager will pick up $50 towards the cost of this class!

The State Licensing Exam

The Minnesota Licensing Exam is administered by Assessment Systems, Inc. (ASI) at six locations throughout the state. It is offered every Saturday in Duluth, Rochester, St. Cloud, Moorhead and Marshall. The Edina test center offers the exam daily, Monday through Saturday, plus Thursday evenings.

Courses II and III

You should attend Course II and Course III as soon as possible after sitting for the exam. That way, you'll be fully prepared to apply for your license in the shortest possible time.

Course II and Course III move into the "real world" practices of real estate. You'll follow a transaction from beginning to end, engage in small group case studies and generally prepare to get started in your new career.  The cost for the courses in addition to the course dates can be found on the ProSource website: www.prosource.com

The License Application

When you've finished all the other requirements, it's time to complete your license application, have it signed by your employing broker and forward it to the Department of Commerce for processing. It will take about 10 days for your license to be issued.
